PALMERSTON NORTH

Christchurch and Kings show their class

Christchurch Boys High School and Kings College dominated the first round of the 2010 Gillette Cup finals which were reduced to 40 over affairs due to morning rain in Palmerston North.

King’s College vs Hutt International Boys’ School

Hutt won the toss and asked Kings to bat on what looked to be a greenish pitch. Hutt started confidently taking three early wickets before Simon Hickey and Fa’asiu Fuata’i put together a match winning partnership of 131 runs. Hickey ended up on 80 and Fuata’i was unbeaten on 75. Hutt bowler Chris Walker worked hard and ended up with figures of 3-50 off eight overs. Chasing 245 Hutt were never a serious threat and ended up scoring 110 off of their 40 overs. Mark Chapman was the pick of the bowlers taking 4-19 off his 8 overs.

Kings College 245-5 (Hickey 80, Fuata’i 75 no, Walker 3-50) beat Hutt International Boys’ School 110-9 (Chapman 4-19)

Christchurch Boys’ High School vs Palmerston North Boys’ High School

Christchurch Boys’ High School won the toss and elected to bat first and lost an early wicket. Christchurch captain James Richards came to the crease and was the main stay of the innings scoring 83*. Richards was the only batsman to score double figures in the entire innings. Phillip Mecredy finished with four for 30 for Palmerston and CBHS were eventually bowled out for 138 in the 39th over. The Palmerston North Boys’ High School innings started poorly with three batsmen being dismissed before a run had been scored. Palmerston’s batsmen struggled to get going due to some outstanding pace bowling, the chief destroyer being Edward Nuttall who finished with five for 17 off eight overs.

Christchurch Boys High School 138 all out (J. Richards 83*, P Mecredy 4-30) beat Palmerston North Boys High School 106 all out (D. Barr 32, E. Nuttall 5 for 17, W. Williams 2 for 18).

Hamilton Boys’ High School vs. John McGlashan College
