PALMERSTON NORTH

King’s College vs. Hamilton Boys’ High School

Hamilton won the toss and elected to bowl first in this traditionally tight fixture. Hamilton started slowly and struggled to put quality partnerships together to set King’s a competitive total. Talented King’s all-rounder Simon Hickey, who had performed well with the bat in the first two games, bowled outstandingly well ending up with five for 15 off 10 overs including five maidens with his right arm off spinners. Hamilton ended up setting a total of 128 all out in the 48th over.

In reply, King’s lost early wickets being two for 27 which gave Hamilton a glimmer of hope. Opener Ben Horne steadied the ship scoring his first half century of the tournament ending up on 50. An unbeaten fourth wicket partnership between Fuata’i (22*) and Chapman (26*) guided King’s to victory in the 38th over. This win saw King’s go through to the Gillette Cup Championship final.

HBHS 128 all out (Hickey 5-15) LOST TO King’s College 132-4 (Horne 50, Chapman 26*, Fuata’i 22*)

Christchurch Boys’ High School vs. Hutt International Boys’ School

Christchurch Boys’ High School won the toss and elected to bat first against a confident Hutt International Boys’ School who had just come off a very good victory in their previous game. Hutt put Christchurch Boys’ under early pressure taking wickets at regular intervals and stifling any momentum that Christchurch Boys’ could get. The last seven overs ended up being the most productive of the innings for Christchurch Boys’.  The ninth wicket produced 54 runs with Lachie Davidson striking 36* and Alex Hodgson contributing 20* to lift them to 187 for eight off their allotted 50 overs.

In reply, Hutt started very well and were initially on track to record their second victory in two days. However, they lost their way with their last five wickets producing only 11 runs. This victory saw Christchurch Boys’ record their third victory in as many days and gain a place in the Gillette Cup Championship finals against arch rivals King’s College.

CBHS 187/8 (James Richards 39, Davidson 36*, Hodgson 20*, Ben Skilton 3-32) BEAT HIBS 109 all out (A. Hodgson 3-28, B. Johnston 26)

Palmerston North Boys’ High School vs. John McGlashan College

Palmerston North Boys High School won the toss and decided to bat first up on a sunny day at Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North. Palmerston stacked on the runs with two significant partnerships. A opening stand of 97 between Brynn Cleaver (54) and Hayden Hill and a fourth wicket partnership of 72 between Arana Noema-Barnett (63) and Conner Morriss enabled Palmerston to score a competitive total of 276 for six.

In reply John McGlashan was never in the hunt and were bowled out for 83 in the 31st over. Navin Patel was the chief destroyer taking three for 16 off seven overs.

PNBHS 276/ 6 (Noema-Barnett 63, Cleaver 54) BEAT JMC 83 all out (Patel 3-16)
