Waikato’s Fairfield Amateur Athletics Club is $10,000 richer thanks to the generosity of Canterbury resident Annette James and her purchase of a tin of MILO.

Mrs James won the major prize in the MILO Sports Cash Promotion, with the total $20,000 prize package delivering a $10,000 prize for her, plus an additional $10,000 for a sports club of her choice.

The decision to gift the $10,000 to a club at the other end of the country from her Christchurch home was an easy one, says Mrs James, after a holiday visit from her Waikato-based family.

“We bought the tin of MILO when my brother-in-law Gordon and family were staying with us,” says Mrs James. “When I found out I had won, I suggested we should split the prize but he insisted I’d entered the competition, so I should have the money.”

Nominating the Fairfield Amateur Athletics Club to receive the $10,000 portion of the prize was the perfect choice for Mrs James, with her Waikato-based family having a long association with the club.

“Gordon’s daughters had been to the club, and now his grandchildren too,” adds Mrs James.

The $10,000 cash injection comes at the perfect time for the Club and will help with uniform and fee subsidies, as well as new equipment.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of both Nestlé and Mrs James,” says Sandra Murray, Club Secretary. “We are looking forward to putting the funds to good use around the club.”

Mrs James was one of three winners of the MILO Sports Cash Promotions run by Nestlé New Zealand, sharing a total prize pool of $60,000. Redcliffs Primary School in Christchurch and Limehill Star Rugby Club in Winton were nominated by the other two winners and each received $10,000.
