Chloe Scala has been appointed General Manager of Invercargill Airport Ltd and started work today, Airport Chairman Merv Cook said.

Ms Scala’s appointment comes two weeks after the sudden departure of former General Manager Gordon Johnstone.

Mr Cook said that Ms Scala, who is a former Southlander, was previously employed by Carnival Cruise Lines, a company based in Miami, Florida. She worked for the company for thirteen years in a variety of roles, culminating in the position of Hotel Director.

Her experience with Carnival meant that she had more than ten years’ experience in international port and shipboard operations; project planning, budgeting and development; safety, security and risk management; crisis management and rescue operations; as well as human resources and public relations.

Mr Cook said Ms Scala had been one of the top two candidates for the General Manager’s position and had re-contacted the Airport Board upon learning of Mr Johnstone’s unexpected departure.

This had resulted in the Board being able to move quickly to appoint her General Manager and for her to begin work immediately, Mr Cook said.
