NELSON

The White Ferns have landed in Nelson ahead of the international Twenty20 game against Australia tomorrow.

The women didn’t make it onto Seddon Park yesterday for their opening game against their trans-Tasman rivals because of wet ground conditions, so they are hoping for a brighter start at Saxton Oval.

White Ferns coach Gary Stead said although the players were disappointed about not taking to the park yesterday they are still in high spirits. “We are still staying positive. The weather isn’t something you can control,” he said.

The Nelson and Tasman area has also had its fair share of rain over the last 48 hours with roads blocked and rivers overflowing. There were concerns within the White Ferns camp that they wouldn’t make it to Nelson, however they arrived safely today. “It’s beautiful at the moment,” Stead said while at training this afternoon. “There are no signs of rain at the ground and hopefully it will stay beautiful for tomorrow.”

The White Ferns will be looking to win the game tomorrow to go one up against the Australians in the now seven-match series. “We’d like to finish 2010 on a high and we will be playing positively,” said Stead. “We have been training hard and I’m confident all the players who take to the park tomorrow will play to the best of their abilities.”

The game at Saxton Oval is the first international fixture for the ground. The game starts at 3.00pm and is free to enter and also live on SKY TV. Stead is hoping the locals come out to support the White Ferns. “It would be great to see people coming out and supporting their national women's team. Two of the best teams in world cricket will be going head to head and the last time we met the Aussies beat us on the last ball. It’s going to be a fantastic competition,” he concluded.

According to the Metservice Nelson will have a high of 22 degrees with light seas breezes tomorrow.
