Marketing byAssociation brings an outstanding range of speakers

The Marketing byAssociation conference to be held 22nd February at Auckland’s Waipuna Hotel & Conference Centre will wow attendees with a range of speakers, both local and international.

Nancy Schwartz will be coming to New Zealand for her first non-profit conference locally, and is sure to inspire attendees with her knowledge on how charities and associations can connect and engage with their audience through the use of off line and online media. As keynote speaker she will be supported by a panel of New Zealand practitioners via workshops and case studies. As well as presenting to the full conference Nancy will also be conducting a master class.

She states as her principal occupation designing and implementing marketing and communications programmes to assist non-profit organisations to maximise their impact and income. Her clients, past and present, include the American Liver Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Pfizer Foundation, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, the United Way and WK Kellog Foundation. She also advises small to mid-sized entities.

While her message is designed to appeal to chief, marketing and communication executives of incorporated societies and charitable trusts, it will also apply to marketing managers of for-profit companies of all sizes.

Also to speak at the conference will be New Zealand’s own Keith Norris, Director of Public Affairs at the Marketing Association.Under his leadership as Chief Executive for 16 years, the Association became recognised as one of New Zealand's foremost business organisations, representing over 4,000 marketing professionals and 400 member companies.

For the last 20 years Keith has been at the forefront of the growth of marketing in the Asia Pacific region. He was elected to the Marketing Hall of Fame in 2008.

Keith admits to more than a passing interest in food and wine and is actively involved in charitable fundraising. As President of Titirangi Golf Club he has been instrumental in rebuilding the course and club facilities so that it is now recognised as one of the most prestigious clubs in New Zealand.

Graham Billings is former president of the Magazine Publishers' Association as well as inaugural Chairman of the Joint Industry Committee for Readership Research. He has also held roles with Wilson and Horton Publications with additional responsibility for the New Zealand Listener, UBD and Wises Directories until he left for Australia in 1995 to take up a similar role with APN Specialty Publishing in Melbourne and Sydney.

Since returning to New Zealand, Billings spent 6 years with the Order of St John, Northern region, where he was responsible for their profit making activities as well as marketing and fundraising. Currently Mr Billings is the Executive Director of the Franchise Association of New Zealand, the peak body for the franchising sector.

Also to speak is Don Oliver, who has spent his career giving of himself to the communities he has lived in. People are vitally important to him. This combined with a natural, gifted ability in communicating and sales have guided his life choices.

Following ordination and commissioning as a Salvation Army Officer he has held numerous Church & Community leadership roles in New Zealand before being posted to the UK. On returning to NZ he became involved in The Salvation Army's national Training School (Theological College) and in Hamilton as leader of what grew to be TSA's largest Church & Community programme in New Zealand. This included being Director of regional Employment Plus programmes. Then back to London, England to TSA’s World Headquarters as Under Secretary for Global Resourcing. Don was then sent to Sydney Australia before being appointed back to NZ for a Public Relations role which included encouraging large corporate partnerships with TSA.

On reconnecting with New Zealand, Don chose to invest in ‘helping the helpers’ in a wider capacity than through TSA. Thus began his time as CEO of United Way NZ.

Sue McCarty helps form the team of speakers. She served on the management team at EDS in the UK, heading up their Communications Services division for Europe before relocating to New Zealand with her kiwi husband and young son in 1992.

Sue has held various management, business development and marketing leadership roles within local Telco and Communications organisations, eventually taking over the reins as General Manager of esolutions in 2001.

Eventually leaving the world of IT&T, Sue established two diverse businesses of her own, one a highly successful management consultancy business, the other being a successful business venture, VIA NZ Limited (a unique personal development retreat for young women from around the world). In 2005 VIA was even lauded as being "...the most exclusive finishing school in the world" by the Daily Mail in the UK.
