Local groups around Auckland can attract some good karma from New Zealand Post-owned Localist, through its “Karma Fund”. The new, local information service has $20,000 to give away to selected Auckland community projects or local causes.

Localist is inviting Aucklanders to tell them via Facebook what local projects are deserving of money from the “Karma Fund”.

Community groups can apply for funding online at www.facebook.com/LocalistNZ until the end of February. Winning causes will be announced in March.

About the Localist “Karma Fund”

Before Christmas, Localist invited Aucklanders to nominate their favourite local business or service group to go in the draw for a pre-Christmas hamper. Fourteen hampers were given away to local businesses that stretched from Milford to Pukekohe and from Mission Bay to Piha. For every nomination Localist donated one “karma dollar” into its “Karma Fund”, to the value of $20,000.

Community groups in Auckland can apply for money from the “Karma Fund” via Facebook, until February 28, 2011. Localist will give away $5,000 to four Auckland causes, totaling $20,000.
