Athletics New Zealand’s Performance Director Kevin Ankrom has announced his resignation after nearly 4 years in the role.

During his tenure, Ankrom has reformed the structure of Athletics NZ’s high performance programme and his strategic approach with the support of SPARC and the NZ Academy of Sport has seen the implementation of a world class performance programme.

In praising Ankrom’s time with Athletics NZ, Chief Executive Scott Newman acknowledged that “Kevin’s commitment to implementing a performance programme benchmarked at a truly elite level is one of the key reason’s the sport now enjoys increasing performance success and strong support from our key performance stakeholders. The systems and processes that Kevin has implemented have created a transparent and performance focussed approach and we will be looking to continue to strengthen and develop the platform that Kevin has initiated.”

Over the last four years Athletics NZ has enjoyed its best ever series of international performances and has secured unprecedented levels of high performance funding from SPARC.

Ankrom will remain in the role until March. The recruitment process for finding a replacement will begin immediately.
