Christchurch-based company DivorceMe are breaking the boundaries of the legal arena by making the separation and divorce process more readily accessible and less complicated for New Zealanders. They launch their website www.divorceme.co.nz on February 14, 2011.

DivorceMe is the first of its kind in New Zealand, and with an average of 9624 divorces in New Zealand over the past five years; they think it’s time Kiwis had the process made easier and more affordable by cutting the costs of an amicable divorce.

DivorceMe looks to eliminate the time, lawyer’s fees and legal jargon out of the divorce process by offering a six-stage plan at a cost of $299. They also offer basic separation agreements for $49.

The plan involves users signing up to the website and completing a simple form. A pack is sent to the customer and includes all the necessities needed for a successful divorce.

Once the forms are signed, they are filed or posted to a local family court which means there is no need to even step foot in a courthouse.

The Court Registrar then makes an order dissolving the marriage/civil union which is dissolved around one month later, and the process is complete.

The faces behind DivorceMe are solicitor Andrew Bell and web designer Aaron Pero.

Andrew has a Law and Marketing major from Canterbury University, and with his knowledge and understanding of New Zealand Law and Divorces, he plays a big role at the business.

“After advising in a number of legal disciplines I noticed a trend emerging in the area of divorce. All too often people were clueless as to how the process worked and saw divorce as an overly complicated procedure when in fact it needn’t be. I saw an opportunity to cost-cut and help people through simplifying the divorce process.”

Aaron Pero has an extensive background in web businesses. His role involved the strategy, development and design of the website.

Their contacts in the legal arena ensure that if further assistance is needed, then they can refer the client to these firms where a more hands-on approach is required.

DivorceMe currently provides Kiwis with the tools needed to help those going through a mutual divorce with a broader range of services to come in 2011.
