Bradburn Says Mathieson Is One To Watch
Yahoo!Xtra Northern Knights coach Grant Bradburn has high hopes for the cricketing future of exciting young fast bowler Andrew Mathieson.
Bradburn describes the 21-year-old Hamilton right-arm pace bowler as "promising, raw and quick: he's a young player whom we believe is destined to go a long way in the game."
Mathieson has been named in the Knights' Plunket Shield squad of 12 for their fourth round clash with the top of the table Central Stags in Whangarei starting this Thursday. If named in the playing XI, as seems likely, the match will pit Mathieson against his major contemporary, the Central Stags' young fast bowler Adam Milne, who was inducted into the BLACKCAPS earlier this season on the promise of his sheer pace as the national selectors seek out candidates to replace the void left by Shane Bond's retirement.
Bradburn details his thoughts on Mathieson, debutant batsman Brook Hatwell and the Northern Knights' mid-season status in an interview at http://northernknights.yahooxtra.co.nz/blogs/the-pink-report/entries/new-stars-rising
