The Okere Gates on the Kaituna River have been opened again.

The gates were closed on Sunday afternoon following a request by New Zealand Police, to lower the river’s level to assist with the search for a missing hunter.

The gates will be opened further at 5pm this afternoon to help lower Lake Rotoiti levels. Companies who use the river are being asked to conclude their activities by then. The gates will also be held open tomorrow with normal flows expected to resume on Wednesday morning.
