Ideal running conditions and a stunning course were enjoyed by nearly 100 athletes as they competed in Race 2 of the Riverrun Trail Series, yesterday.

Oska Inkster-Baynes (Wanaka) made easy work of the 13.1km Upper Clutha River Track from Albert Town to Luggate, taking top honors in a cracking time of 46:28. Seventy three seconds later Adrian Bailey (Queenstown) finished with David Keith also of Queenstown rounding off the men’s podium in a time of 48:21.

The women’s field was equally talented with Stina Haikka (Finland) the first home in a good time of 55:45, followed by Ailsa Rollinson (Wanaka) 57:43. Third place went to Lanham Marks-Hamilton (USA) in a time of 1:02:34.
Queenstown’s Yvan Fleck was the first male vet across the line in 54:04 while Wanaka athlete Ann Scanlan took the top spot in the female vet category in 01:04:07.
“It is a great course and I really enjoyed the scenic track, with a few challenging climbs along the way. The competition was good, pushing me to go harder out in front. I am looking forward to Race 3 of the Riverrun Trail Series,” said Inkster-Baynes.

The final race in the Series will be staged on 21 May 2011 on the Damper Bay/Waterfall Creek travelling from Glendhu Bay to the Wanaka township when the overall male and female winners will be decided to take home the John Pawson Trophy and grand cash prize.

The Riverrun Trail Series is generously supported by Riverrun, the Pawson Adventure Fund, Nevada Sports, Racers Edge, Revive Beauty, Lakes Podiatry and Radio Wanaka.
