Update from Christchurch Airport

Christchurch International Airport is open for all international and domestic flights. Red Cross flights from Christchurch are continuing for people travelling internationally who have either misplaced or lost their passport. People are being flown to Wellington and Auckland so they can access their embassies and receive assistance for further travel. To be eligible for these flights, people must register at the Burnside High School Welfare Centre to be put on the Royal New Zealand Air Force (NZAF) Flight manifest. Once people have registered at the Burnside High School Welfare Centre, they go to Gate 3 on Orchard Rd (RNZAF Movements) for their flights.

There are a number of diplomatic representatives at the airport to assist international travellers. They are all based at the police kiosk in the International Arrivals Hall.
Australian passport holders or Australian Permanent Residents without passports must report to the Australian High Commissioner’s Desk before checking in for their flight.
US citizens can be assisted by the American Consulate desk, and Dutch citizens can be assisted by the Netherlands Help Desk. In addition, there is a New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs desk and a New Zealand Immigration desk to assist travellers of all nationalities.

A British consulate has been set up at the Commodore Hotel, on Memorial Ave just outside Christchurch Airport.
Telecom has announced that all local, national and mobile calls from pay phones throughout Christchurch, including at the airport, are free.
