Southlanders are being given the opportunity to express their support for the people of Christchurch via condolence books and by a wall of remembrance.

Mayor Tim Shadbolt will at 12.30pm today open a condolence book at the Invercargill City Council Civic Administration Building. A second condolence book will be available at the Bluff Service Centre.

Mr Shadbolt said the books would be available for members of the public to sign between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and would remain open until the end of March.

The Council had also opened a wall of remembrance at the Invercargill Public Library. People were welcome to write their messages of support and attach them to the wall, which was in the foyer of the library, he said.

“The people of Invercargill and Southland have many friends and family in Christchurch who are in our thoughts and prayers. These books and the wall of remembrance give Southlanders the opportunity to voice our feelings and support for the people of Christchurch, who are going through so much,” Mr Shadbolt said.
