New rules for the Guild and its members
The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand (the Guild) has asked members to consider a new constitution and a proposed draft was circulated last week.
“While the Guild’s priority remains those members affected by the Christchurch earthquake, this work will nevertheless continue,” says Annabel Young, Guild Chief Executive.
The suggested changes to the Guild rules were developed by the Board and National Executive in conjunction with legal advisors. These changes are designed to improve the way the Guild works and the way it represents its members.
“The changes are designed to make the Guild a better representative body, more responsive to members, but at the same time an organisation that is able to make decisions quickly when needed,” says Annabel. “The present two-tier structure will be replaced with a more representative board, elected by postal vote. That Board will be able to direct resources into the whole of New Zealand. There will be less focus on the Divisions and more ability to act locally.”
“Reforming the governing documents of the organisation has not been undertaken lightly. While there has been some tidying up of the rules, there are also some real issues that members need to consider.”
The document will be discussed by members at Divisional AGMs, with a final decision being made at the national Annual General Meeting in June. A change of the rules requires a minimum of 60% support at the national AGM.
