Queenstown people are encouraged to support a Music Relief Concert planned for Sunday (6 March) to raise funds for the victims of the Christchurch Earthquake.

Following Tuesday’s Kia Kaha Canterbury gathering on the Village Green, the Relief Concert aims to further bring people together and raise money during the afternoon and into the evening. The event opens at 12 noon and will run until 10pm at Earnslaw Park, Beach Street in support of the Salvation Army and Red Cross New Zealand – 2011 Earthquake Appeal.

Queenstown Mayor Vanessa van Uden will open the concert. There will be a special Kiwi Haka before music gets underway with a collective line-up of upbeat live performances including Aotearoa originals, blues, rock, 60’s, Brazilian beats and acoustic covers.

A family friendly kids’ zone providing games and face painting for little ones is organised and there will be a silent auction and raffle as part of fundraising activity.

Entry to the concert is free however donations can be made to official Salvation Army and Red Cross collection boxes.

Organisers Sunny Sky, Sam Ross, Nick Ferer and Tony Gillespie have pulled the event together to encourage the Queenstown community to come together in support of their friends, families and neighbours.

“This is an opportunity for us all to come together and show how we feel about Christchurch and how we are prepared to support them in the recovery process,” said Sunny Sky.

The Queenstown Music Relief Concert is a strictly no-alcohol event.
