A host of top bands are set to perform at Massey University’s Albany campus next week in a bid to raise money for those affected by the Christchurch earthquake.
Bands - K Gordon Band, Aotea-Raw, Pirate Super Grip and Outrun the Buffalo - will perform at the relief gig on 16 March 2011.
A newly formed North Shore based company, Cougar’s Den Limited, is organising the event in association with a number of organisations. The Company, which was established predominantly by Massey University students was set to host their launch party next week but instead decided to make the event a fundraiser for Christchurch.
Cougar’s Den Limited Managing Director, Richard van den Bos said after hearing about the devastation in Christchurch they were eager to help.
“What Christchurch is going through is truly terrible and like many New Zealanders we wanted to do whatever we could to help the people affected. With our launch event already partially organised it was a no-brainer to make it a fundraiser.
“The response we have had from the community has been amazing. Within a few hours of posting a request for bands to play pro-bono at the event on Facebook we had received over 10 offers.”
The fundraising aspect of the evening is being handled by Cantabrian and Cougar’s Den Limited co-founder Nick Lovett. Nick said he is working alongside the Albany Students’ Association Inc. to ensure all proceeds raised benefit the people of Christchurch.
“All proceeds from door sales and raffles will go towards victims of the Christchurch earthquake, with a portion of that going to help students forced to study in Auckland after the earthquake.
"We're also encouraging people who attend to wear black and red to show support for Christchurch."
