HASTINGS

A large, exterior wall of a business in Heretaunga Street will soon be adorned with a giant mural, depicting scenes of Hastings district.

The public is being invited to take part in painting the 30 metre long wall of Big Save Furniture, as the initial local project for “Paint New Zealand Beautiful” week.

The outline of the mural will be sketched onto the wall then the public will be invited to come along and dip their hands in paint to fill in the body of the mural.

Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says “the mural painting is a joint partnership with Keep New Zealand Beautiful, which will help promote the anti graffiti message while making a major contribution to the beautification of the city”.

The mural depicts fruit trees, grape vines, Hawke’s Bay landscape and a hot air balloon.

Completion of the mural will take place over the following weeks and it will then be coated in an anti graffiti covering to make sure it remains a part of the landscape in years to come.

A sausage sizzle and giveaways will add to the entertainment, as participants do their bit to complete the mural at Big Save Furniture, Heretaunga Street on Saturday March 19th between 9am and 2pm.
