Work on groyne to begin on Monday

Work is set to begin on Monday (28 March) to make Te Tumu Cut groyne suitable for recreational use – particularly for the anglers already using it.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council Environmental Hazards Group Manager Ken Tarboton said that the structure will remain closed while the works are completed, which is expected to be three weeks.

The works will include installing steel safety rails and some rod holders, bait boards and benches.

“We hope that people will respect the closure and give us the time required to complete these works,” Mr Tarboton said.

Signs and a barrier remain in place at the groyne to close the site and to inform the public.
