Hastings welcomes 29 new citizens

HASTINGS

Hastings will welcome 29 new New Zealanders at a citizenship ceremony to be held tonight (Monday March 28th ) from 6pm in the Hastings District Council Chamber, Lyndon Road, Hastings.

The candidates’ nationalities are as follows:

British 10
South African 5
Filipino 4
Fijian 4
Samoan 2
Indian 1
American 1
British American 1
Slovenian 1

Kaumatua, Mr Jim Whaanga will welcome those present on behalf of tangata whenua, with entertainment to be provided by the Tuhoe Te Heretaunga kapa haka group.

Mayor Lawrence Yule will present each candidate with a kowhai tree, grown at the Hastings District Council’s nursery, to symbolise “putting down roots”.
