PALMERSTON NORTH

Businesses in Palmerston North have not let the change of weather deter them from signing up for Sport Manawatu’s iMove Workplaces initiative.

iMove Workplaces will run during May and encourages employees to get active and change their travel behaviour by ditching the car and walking or biking places instead.

Sport Manawatu’s iMove coordinator, Felicity Masters, says she is looking forward to seeing more workers make the most of Palmerston North’s cycle lanes, flat terrain and close vicitinies.

“Palmerston North is the ideal place for commuter cyclists or walkers. iMove Workplaces will help to change travel perceptions that workers may have. I would imagine many will be surprised to find that they can get places faster by biking or walking,” she says.

An iMove trip could be walking or biking to walk, to meetings, to the gym, or parking the car a few blocks away from work and walking the rest of the way.

Once a worker makes an iMove trip, they log it online. Each week prizes such as coffee and muffin vouchers, umbrellas or bike accessories will be rewarded to those making an effort to iMove.

Ms Masters says having these incentives helps keep workers motivated and will get them walking or biking places more often.
