Johnsonville residents got out their best dresses on Saturday for the Johnsonville Clubs Red Tie Ball fundraiser for Christchurch.
Around 160 people from across Wellington’s Northern Suburbs turned out for the event including Johnsonville based National List MP Katrina Shanks who opened the evening.
“Tonight is our opportunity to come together to support our friends, our family and our fellow New Zealanders down in Christchurch,” Mrs Shanks said.
“The devastating earthquakes on 4 September and 22 February show us how volatile the landscape in New Zealand can be. Anything can happen at any time and if there’s one thing we’ve learnt from this disaster it is that communities sticking together is what will get us through.
“The response from our community has been enormous. Everyone has mucked in and helped out, and I know that my colleagues down in Christchurch are greatly appreciative.”
The ball raised more than $6000 for the Johnsonville Community Earthquake Fund.
