Local MP Welcomes Opening of NZTA Wellington Traffic Operations Centre in Wellington

Johnsonville based National-list MP, Katrina Shanks, welcomes the opening of the new multi-million dollar state-of-the-art traffic operations centre in Johnsonville.

“The Traffic Operations Centre in Johnsonville will provide a vital hub for the monitoring and management of traffic across not only Wellington but the whole lower half of the North Island” Mrs Shanks says.

“The centre makes great use of technology to provide real time information for motorists meaning that they will benefit from better road services.”

“The facilities provide up-to-the-minute travel information on traffic flow, including accidents, peak traffic and road works by using 120 cameras which cover 3000km of road.

“It’s great to have the new centre up and running before the busy Easter period, and with the ability for us to see what's happening out on the road and then responding to it in real time, I hope that it will have a positive effect on driver behaviour.”
