Slip on Breakwater Road

18 homes have been evacuated after a large slip has occurred on Breakwater Road, Napier. The homes affected are located above the slip, in Seapoint and Hornsby Roads, and have been evacuated as a precautionary measure as the land continues to subside.

TANZ is working to clear Breakwater Road to allow traffic to pass.

Most evacuees are staying with family and friends in the interim, although Napier Civil Defence did provide accommodation for a family of five at Kennedy Park Top 10.

Building inspectors are completing preliminary assessments of the properties that have been evacuated to determine whether property owners can access them.

It was earlier reported that there were cars buried under the slip. Police have confirmed that this is not correct.

Napier Civil Defence will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
