Limited edition DB Export Beer quart bottles are riding the wave of renewed interest in this traditional beer format which fell away after the famous ‘stubbie’ came into fashion around 15 years ago.

Crates of the limited edition DB Export Beer contain a dozen 745ml bottles which Liquorland says are selling extremely well nationwide.

“We’re definitely seeing renewed interest in quarts and crates including DB Export Beer,” says Andrew Bartley, Liquorland Merchandise Manager. “What makes this beer special of course is that it’s only back on the market for a limited period. For many customers, drinking beer from a 745ml bottle is a novelty. Most consumers today are used to drinking beer from 330ml bottles or cans and simply recycling the packaging. They’re not used to drinking larger bottles and getting wooden crates which for years were used as shelving and tables by students up and down the country.”

The rise of the quart bottle has also been noticed in bars such as Racket in Auckland.

"Quart bottles for 20 and 30-something New Zealanders will always be a throwback to their student days,” says co-owner Jonny De Monchy. “At Racket Bar we’ve noticed that the larger vessel size has resonated with our largely corporate audience. DB Exports retro branding on the 745ml bottles fits well within the era in which our customers remember drinking them."

DB Export marketing manager Dave Shoemack says interest in DB Export overall has been overwhelmingly positive since it was re-released last October to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its birth. “Response to the re-release of DB Export Beer in quarts has been huge. Consumers are really stoked to be able to try a beer they have heard so much about. We’re coming to the last run now though of the quarts so anyone that hasn’t tried it yet, should definitely do so to avoid missing out.”

DB Export is a 5.35% alcohol beer which was first brewed by DB’s former master brewer, Morton Coutts in 1960. Eight years later it romped home with the International Brewing Awards ‘Brewers Championship Challenge Cup’ for the best beer in the world putting DB Export – and New Zealand beer - on the world stage.

DB Export Beer was the precursor to the DB Export family of beers – Export 33, Export Dry and Export Gold – which have since won dozens of gold medals and trophies in competitions around the world.

To enjoy the last of the limited edition DB Export Beer crates, visit your local Liquorland and selected bars nationwide. The crates have a RRP of $34.99. For more details, visit www.dbexportbeer.co.nz.
