Hastings residents are being asked to conserve water while the testing of bores is undertaken.

The testing will be carried out this month, to help Council determine its capability to meet future water supply requirements and the information gained will be used to support a new resource consent application to take water from the aquifer to supply Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere.

Water Supply Manager Dylan Stuijt says “there will be no interruption to the water supply during testing but some residents may experience slightly lower or fluctuating pressures compared to normal. Residents are asked to reduce their water use during the testing to make sure the supply can be continued to all homes and businesses”

“Some slight discolouration of the water may be noticeable while the testing takes place but it will be safe to drink at all times. If the discolouration doesn’t clear after running a tap for a few minutes, you should contact the Hastings District Council” Mr Stuijt says.

Water doesn’t need to be stockpiled or boiled during the testing period.

Residents are asked to restrict any non essential water use during the period of the tests which includes avoiding any irrigation, if possible. Commercial and industrial premises are also encouraged to restrict flows during this time.

The testing programme is set to begin from May 9th with the Lyndhurst bore at Frimley Park the first to be tested.

That will be followed with the bore in Wilson Road being tested from the 16th of May and the Portsmouth Road bores from the 23rd.

The programme will conclude with testing of the Eastbourne bores on May 30th.

All Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere residents are asked to conserve water during the entire testing period between the 9th and 30th May.

Anyone who has questions about their water supply during the testing programme should call the Hastings District Council 8715000.
