BLENHEIM

There is no plan to raise Blenheim’s parking meter charges even though the rates have been unchanged since 2006.

The council has decided to install a ticket and barrier arm system at the new Alfred Street carpark so people using the parking building pay only for the time they are there. The rate will be the same as the pay-and-display parks at 80 cents per hour. After-hours parking will be free.

Given the capacity of the new parking building, and the lull in the local economy, a full review of future parking needs would need to be done before there is any move to develop more car parking space within the town.

The council is in the process of settling its budgets for the Annual Plan, including its car parking account. The public has an opportunity to make submissions on any budgetary matters up until 12 May.
