Waitakere youth services will get a boost through the Community Response Fund says MP for Waitakere Paula Bennett.

“The health and well being of young West Aucklanders is important and I am glad that local youth services are getting some extra support,” says Ms Bennett.

The Fund is Government’s response to the extra pressure the recession put on community-based providers of critical social services, including increased demand for services or loss of funding due to the financial crisis.

In total 26 Waitakere based social service organisations received over $1.1 million additional funding in Community Response Fund round six.

Some of this funding will go to local youth services such as the McLaren Park Henderson South Community Initiative (MPHS), the Waitakere Improving School Attendance Programme and the Village Community Services Trust.

“I don’t have to tell Westies how important it is for our young people to stay in school and get a good education,” says Ms Bennett.

“Giving them a sense of community is also important and these organisations are helping to do this,” says Ms Bennett.
