Tickets go on sale today for the Asia/Oceania Group 1 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas International Tennis Tie between New Zealand and the Philippines.

The Tie is being held on 8 – 10 July at TSB Hub in Hawera.

New Zealand Davis Cup Captain Marcel Vos is encouraging kiwi supporters to get in behind their team so they can make the most of the hometown advantage.

"The team has great memories from our last tie in Hawera coming back from 2-1 down on the last Sunday to beat Pakistan which set us up for promotion to Group 1.

We enjoyed our stay, the facility was great and the crowd really got behind us in that exciting tie. As we are now in Group I, it is very important to fully utilize our home court advantage and we hope the Taranaki crowd will once again get behind us and be even bigger and more vocal than last time," says Vos.

CEO of Sport Taranaki, Howie Tamati says last year’s matches were some of the best tennis he’d ever seen.

“Last year’s event was tremendous. The tennis played by the New Zealand team was some of the best live tennis we had seen. The two countries provided the crowd at TSB Hub with great value for money. The facilities were ideal and the professionalism ensured a first class fixture befitting what we here in Taranaki see as a premier event on the New Zealand tennis calendar.”

Tickets, which include 3 day passes, family passes and special rates for children are available through Ticket Direct www.ticketdirect.co.nz , phone 0800 4 TICKET or the South Taranaki i-SITE Visitor Centre on 0800 111 323.

Those who purchase a ticket before 13 June go into a draw to win spot prizes.

The Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the world’s largest international sports team competition with 125 nations competing in 2010.

The New Zealand team will be announced in June.
