Environment Canterbury Commissioners have accepted Plan Change 4 to the Regional Coastal Environment Plan which will become operative on Saturday June 11, 2011.

Council accepted a private plan change from the Kaikoura District Council which dealt with the ongoing position of underground fuel tanks at South Bay, Kaikoura.

The purpose of the Private Plan Change was to exempt this particular site from the prohibited activity status which operates in Coastal Hazard Zones through the current Regional Coastal Environment Plan.

The change allows the ongoing positioning of underground fuel tanks at South Bay, Kaikoura. However, they will still require a resource consent.

The fuel storage tanks at South Bay form an important part of the operations of the Kaikoura Marine Facilities Zone.
