Sophie Pascoe has got off the blocks with some strong form competing against some of the best swimmers that Europe has to offer.

Competing at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester over the weekend Sophie Pascoe produced a strong performance in the 100m Breaststroke to win Gold and break the Oceania record for the event. Pascoe dominated the race taking the lead at the 15 metre mark, with strong second and third quarters of the race she had all but secured the race heading into the final 25 metres. Pascoe, who finished in 1:20:83, was chased home to the wall by Claire Cashmore, 1:21.63, and Louise Watkin 1:25.11 both of Great Britain.

The win is a positive sign for the Christchurch based Pascoe who is looking to peak for the Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships being held in Edmonton, Canada in August this year. This event is being targeted as they are a qualifying event for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

During a warm up International open event the day prior to the BT Paralympic World Cup Pascoe competed in three races. These races were targeted to strengthen her different strokes with a view to her Individual Medley performance later in the season. Pascoe again showed her class throughout the meet winning all three of her races and breaking two Oceania Records in the 100 metres Freestyle and 50 meters backstroke.
