QUEENSTOWN

New Zealand’s funniest comedians and a ribbing of TV3’s comedy satire show ‘7 Days’ are to provide the perfect recipe for side-splitting entertainment at this year’s American Express Queenstown Winter Festival (June 24 – 3 July).

Kicking off at the Oaks Hotels & Resorts Comedy Gala on Monday 27 June Kiwi funnyman Brendhan Lovegrove celebrates the return of slapstick humour to Queenstown with some of the country’s finest stand up acts, including a rendition of the TV3 programme led by Jeremy Corbett and two rival panels lambasting each other over daily news.

Then on Tuesday 28 June stay up for Late Night Laughs with three of the ‘hairiest’ guys in New Zealand comedy, Dai Henwood, Ben Hurley and Steve Wrigley – all taking to the stage with award-winning Urzilla Carlson to deliver their best material fresh from the Auckland International Comedy Festival.

Wednesday 29 June throws Jeremy Corbett, Michelle A’Court, Paul Ego and Jeremy Elwood into the mix for the third night of comedic royalty and Festival comedy genius. Mr Lovegrove will host all three of Winter Festival’s comedy nights at the American Express Ice Box at Queenstown Memorial Hall.

Festival Director Simon Green said the comedy line up was set to “get Queenstowners falling off their chairs.”

“Winter Festival is all about fun and we’ll have even the most hardened of up-tight big cheeses rolling around with good times and laughter,” he said.

“Dai, Ben and Steve are an explosive combination – as are the two Jeremys, Michelle and Paul. Expect below the belt humour, a complete mockery of the front row and to walk out with a huge grin stretched across your face. This is not missed.”

Tickets for the Comedy Gala cost $69 while Late Nights Laughs cost $39. Both evenings are strictly 18 years and over.

The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival runs from June 24 – 3 July. To view the full programme go to www.winterfestival.co.nz or pick up a programme at information outlets throughout the region.

Tickets for Festival events can be bought from TicketDirect online at www.ticketdirect.co.nz, by phone 0800 224 224 (03 450 9110), or in person at the Queenstown Events Centre or Queenstown i-Site (corner of Shotover and Camp streets)*.
