A project to enhance the Windsor Park stream is designed to overcome its poor condition, which has been noted by the community

The eight week project has commenced and the first stage of earthworks is well advanced. Improvement work will be undertaken over the length of stream, from Splash Planet to near the Hastings Top 10 Holiday Park.

An ecological solution has been recommended, which includes the filling in of the disused paddle boat channels, making for a narrower stream and a faster flow. The stream surrounds will be reshaped to make the whole area more attractive for the community.

By narrowing the stream, the water flow will increase which will help stop stagnation, ensuring the water stays clear. Once the project is completed, visitors will have to access to both sides of the park, by crossing the historic stone bridges.

A larger body of water will be left around the bridges, to maintain the attractive look of the waterway and ensure kayaking and other activities can be undertaken.

Some foliage has been removed from the banks of the stream, which will ensure trees and shrubs can grow to their full potential.

The final landscape design will provide improved views across the park and create more usable space for families to picnic or just take a relaxing stroll.

The earthworks are due for completion before the end of July, when tree and shrub planting will be undertaken, followed by the regrassing of the area closer to spring.
