Bay of Plenty Regional Council has referred a funding request from the Home of Cycling – a trust set up to drive a bid for a world-class cycling facility in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato – to the Council’s Ten Year Plan process.

As part of the Council’s Annual Plan 2011/12 process, Council received a number of requests to support funding for this project. The funding request is to support and co-ordinate funding from local government authorities in the Bay of Plenty for $4 million towards the Home of Cycling project.

Council has today decided – as part of its Annual Plan 2011/12 deliberations – that it will not provide funding in the coming year but would consider the proposal as part of its Ten Year Plan 2012 – 2022.

Council is not expected to adopt its next Ten Year Plan until June 2012.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council Chairman John Cronin said the Council wanted to look at the request in more detail than was possible through our Council’s Annual Plan process.

“Referring this request on to our Ten Year Plan process will give us time to gather further information and make a more informed decision,” Chairman Cronin said.
