QUEENSTOWN

The Community Open Day held at the Queenstown Events Centre last Sunday 5 June was a huge success with over 1300 people joining in the fun and games and making the most of a free day out.

The afternoon’s More FM Pool Party attracted a lot of very excited children keen try out Alpine Aqualand’s brand new giant floating inflatable obstacle course, drench their friends under the dunking machine and compete in the splash competitions that even included a category for dads. The morning was filled with fun and games in the stadium including hula hooping, hand painting and colouring competitions with the rock climbing wall proving to be an extremely popular option for kids keen to try their hand at the sport.

Hundreds of people entered a lucky draw giving away five annual Alpine Aqualand memberships and the lucky winners, drawn by Community Constable Zoe Albon, will be notified today.

Lakes Leisure CEO Fiona McKissock described the day as a resounding success for both the community who enjoyed a day’s free entertainment as well as the Lakes Leisure team who hosted the event.

“Our team did a fantastic job of pulling the day together and we got some great feedback from people who came down to get amongst the action. So many people made the effort to get their family together and share the day with us. We owe them all a big thank you for their support in helping make the day such a success.”

Over $1400 was raised in gold coin entry donations and has been donated to the Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
