Dunedin Pacific reggae band, 'Koile announces a concert to acknowledge their win at the 7th Pacific Music Awards, held in Auckland last weekend. 'Koile's album “Te Hua” was named the winner in the Tagata Pāsifika Best Language category. The concert will be held at the Macandrew Bay Community Hall as part of the Dunedin Puaka Matariki 2011 celebrations.

Doors open at 7pm on Saturday, 11 June and tickets will be available from Bellamy's Gallery, the Inch Bar and Tangente Cafe. “We would be very honoured if people came to celebrate our win with us and, as Dunedin musos, we need to acknowledge our out-of-town performers from Parihaka and Christchurch.” said frontman Hiliako Iaheto.

“For us, as proud descendants of adventurers, navigators and discoverers,” continued Mr Iaheto, “Matariki is a time to honour those who have passed on in the last twelve months. Puaka Matariki 2011 will be especially poignant, as one of Saturday night's performers will be Tihikura Hohaia. His Dad, Te Miringa was the Director of the Parihaka International Peace Festival and he passed away last August.”

Mr Iaheto added, “For South Island musicians any opportunity to celebrate and cement our familial connections and bonds throughout Aotearoa is precious and we remain ever grateful to Pacific Underground.”

“Winning this award has been a huge affirmation.” Mr Iaheto concluded, “This tells us, and our kids that there is a place for Pacific languages in contemporary New Zealand music. It affirms the message we try to pass onto our kids. From knowing our languages and the resilience of our parents' and grandparents' generations, we can be proud in shaping our futures. Saturday night's celebration in our various Pacific voices is going to be awesome.”

The format of this event is styled on our community socials with live music, evening supper and a wide range of people coming to enjoy a night out and celebrate.
