Netball Australia can confirm that the ash cloud caused from a Chilean volcano has disrupted the Australian Diamonds scheduled departure from New Zealand following the two-Test series against the Silver Ferns.

The Diamonds were due to return to their respective states on Monday morning however flight cancellations has caused disruptions to the team’s return home, which is now expected to be on Tuesday evening.

Queensland and West Australian based athletes have secured flights departing today while the remainder of the team and support staff from South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria will spend another night in Auckland.

After studying whenever possible on tour, Diamonds’ defender Susan Fuhrmann is due to return to Perth just in time for a pharmaceutical exam at Curtin University on Tuesday.

These delays have not caused any disruptions to the Diamonds’ preparations for next month’s World Netball Championships, as team members were given this week to rest and prepare ahead of next week’s pre-tournament training camp in Hong Kong.
