Taupō Literary hero celebrated

Rowley Habib (Rore Hapipi) Rowley Habib is a playwright, poet and fiction writer who has had his work published in New Zealand and overseas since the 1950s.

Starting the celebration of Rowley’s literary life will be an introduction and tribute to Rowley by his long time friend and protégé Apirana Taylor. Apirana is himself a celebrated poet and writer. (to be held at Taupō Library Tuesday 21st, 10.30am – 11am).

Celebrations continue with Rowley speaking of his experiences as a small town Māori boy and his journey to becoming a pioneer of contemporary writing in New Zealand. (to be held at Taupō Museum Tuesday 21st from 11.40am). Rowley will then hold a series of workshops over the following three days at Taupō Library from 1:30pm – 3pm:

Weds 22 June Short story writing. Bring your ideas and discuss the industry, getting started & getting published.
Thursday 23 June Television and Theatre writing. Includes a showing of the film “The Protesters” for which Rowley received the Feltex Award for best script in 1982.
Friday 24 June Poetry, Poetry reading
