Wintec’s Avalon campus in the north of Hamilton has been renamed the Rotokauri campus.

Wintec Chief Executive Mark Flowers says: “the changing configuration and growing role of this campus makes it the right time to change the name. From April next year, the entrance to the campus will be accessed from the Rotokauri suburb instead of Avalon Drive and there are also upgrades to Wintec’s campus signage in coming weeks. “

“Having a campus with a Māori name also recognises the area’s Māori heritage and further demonstrates our commitment to Māori achievement. The name Rotokauri translates to ‘lake of kauri’ and reflects the area’s wetlands origins.”

The Rotokauri campus sits within Hamilton’s Rotokauri suburb an area which the Hamilton City Council proposes to set up a town centre in the future.

Wintec opened its campus on Avalon Drive in 1995. The campus is home to Wintec’s School of Trades, School of Sport and Exercise Science and Centre for Hospitality. Also based at the Rotokauri campus is Wintec’s training restaurant, a student hub, Wintec’s Centre for Industry Training, a student village and Sport Waikato.

Wintec’s main campus is located in Hamilton’s CBD, and also has satellite campuses in the Hamilton Gardens, Te Kuiti, Thames and Otorohanga, as well as an office in Beijing, China.
