The best of Broadway & the West End at Showstoppers

All hits and no misses, high kicks and jazz hands will be on offer at the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Showstoppers! concert at the Aotea Centre on Saturday 27 October.



The concert will feature popular songs from hit Broadway and West End musicals performed by a full symphonic orchestra and a stellar cast of entertainers.



Shane Cortese has displayed his acting skills in Outrageous Fortune and Shortland Street, his dancing skills in Dancing with the Stars and his singing skills on stage in his Rock & Roll Heaven shows and now Shane Cortese will showcase all three talents in Showstoppers!



Jennifer Ward-Lealand is also a multi-talented entertainer who has worked extensively in theatre, film and television for over 25 years. She has excelled in both dramatic and comedic roles, as well as numerous roles in musical theatre and cabaret.



Cortese and Ward-Lealand will be joined by Michael Cormick and Deborah Wai Kapohe under the baton of acclaimed Australian music director and conductor Guy Noble.



Songs featured in the programme come from the following hit musicals: Chicago, Chess, Porgy & Bess, Miss Saigon, My Fair Lady, The Phantom of the Opera, Cabaret, West Side Story, Sunset Boulevard, Gypsy, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, Company and Aspects of Love.



Showstoppers! is the third concert of the APO’s Symphonic Pops concerts for 2007.



“Audiences have loved the orchestra’s A Night at the Movies and Scotland the Brave concerts this year and Showstoppers! looks set to be another fantastic, fun, family night out,” says APO Chief Executive, Barbara Glaser. “With some of the best-loved show tunes and this amazing group of performers, get ready for some toe-tappin’, finger-snappin’ entertainment! This is one concert that we encourage audiences to make some noise and sing-along.”
