Auckland based Kitchens by Design director Linda Christensen won the Designer of the Year Award at the recent National Kitchen & Bathroom Association awards.
Her design for a traditional kitchen in a family home in central Auckland also won the Auckland region Kitchen of the Year.
Linda is well acquainted with taking to the podium at design awards, having won her first award in 1989, the same year she formed Kitchens by Design. But she says the excitement and pride in winning awards hasn’t diminished over time.
‘After 22 years in this business it feels good to still be at the top of the industry. Kitchens by Design has won the widest range of awards of any New Zealand kitchen design company but the designer award is close to my heart as it is voted by my peers, by other designers’.
The winning kitchen was a major renovation which took many months and incorporated a scullery, laundry and bathrooms which were all designed and co-ordinated by Linda at Kitchens by Design.
‘It is wonderful to see a return to more traditional style kitchens,’ says Linda ‘Trends in the style and look of course come and go but good planning, design, ergonomics and detailing are always key to getting the room at the heart of your home to work well and look good for years to come’.
The team at Kitchens by Design has won over 50 design awards and installed almost 10 000 kitchens and bathrooms in homes around New Zealand and overseas.
