The Cancer Society is delighted the Government has today passed the legislation required to ban tobacco
displays.

“This is a positive move toward denormalising tobacco in Aotearoa for our tamariki/children and future
generations, said Chief Executive of the Cancer Society, Dalton Kelly.

“Today is history in the making. It has been five years since the Cancer Society stood on the steps of
Parliament with a petition signed by thousands of New Zealanders calling for the introduction of such
laws. Today’s news makes all the work worthwhile.

“In addition to commending the Government we would like to say a special thank you to HonTariana
Turia and the Maori party for all the support they have provided in helping drive this legislation
thorough.”

This is another step towards the vision of a tobacco free/tupeka kore Aotearoa.”
