State Highway 1 between Balclutha and Dunedin, State Highway 93 between Mataura and Clinton, and State Highway 94 between Te Anau to Milford remain closed. State Highway 6 is now open between Invercargill and Queenstown.

The majority of roads around Southland remain icy and because of this, travel should be avoided wherever possible.

Motorists need to be aware that this evening and tomorrow morning the majority of Southland roads will be extremely dangerous, so if travel is necessary this should be done before dark.

Updated State Highway information will be posted at www.civildefence.co.nz or on the local radio stations (Classic Hits 98.8FM, More FM 89.2FM, and Hokonui Gold 94.8 FM)
