Mayor Alistair Sowman inspected the work that Marlborough Boys’ College Leo Club members were doing for the community last week, planting native shrubs along the bank of the Opawa River just past Raupo Café.

The boys have planted flaxes and coprosma as part of an international Lions Club tree planting campaign to plant a million trees around the globe in the year ahead.

Mr Sowman praised the boys’ efforts and thanked them for giving up half a day of holidays to get the job done.

The work is part of the landscaping for the Taylor and Opawa riverbanks, set out in the UrbanismPlus strategy for improvements to the Blenheim town centre.
