Dog owners who have not registered their dogs now face a penalty of $37.50. If the dog is left unregistered, the owner faces a fine of $300 and possible removal of the dog if caught.

Southland District Council's Animal Control Officer is now actively looking for unregistered dogs throughout the district.

Registration fees are used to maintain a safe and healthy environment for residents, dog owners and their pets. All dogs over the age of three months must be registered.

Any dog not wearing a collar with a current registration label or disc will be treated as unregistered. Replacement tags may be obtained from Council.
