HOBART, Australia (August 10) – The Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge is set to be the most premium and prestigious event on the multisport calendar this year – and the limited entries to join the field are going fast.

Organisers have recently completed final recces to firm up the course for the competition, which will see F1 driver and adventurer Mark Webber kick things off in the stunning Freycinet region of Tasmania on December 7.

They are now finalizing the remaining places and race director Karina Crawford said: “The attention we have seen since we announced the Challenge’s return has been huge, both domestically and from countries like Brazil, the UK, Italy and France to name a few.

“Places are filling up but there are still some available and we are looking forward to a very varied field of competitors ranging from top teams of elite racers to some amateur athletes supported by corporate entries.

“It’s exciting that the race is back, and it’s great to see it all coming together – and while this is a serious adventure challenge it is also a chance to experience Tasmania at its finest, so we have included some of the top luxury stops in the schedule as well.”

The staged race, which involves 70km per day of biking, kayaking and trekking will be separated by overnight full facility camping, and there are five-day and three-day options for competitors. Entry fees in the main event will start at AUD$6,000 for a two-person team for the three-day competition, including all accommodation, quality food and exclusive launch and closing parties at premium hotels.

The event is run by Webber to raise money for his Mark Webber Foundation and he will be inviting some top current and former sports stars to join the field, ensuring the event will generate significant broadcast, print and online coverage for team and event sponsors.

Key media attendance from the likes of the Daily Telegraph and Reuters is already in place and Crawford added: “The premium level of the event and the fact it is likely to involve some pretty well known famous faces really sets it apart from anything else out there.

“We have had a lot of interest from media and there will be excellent global coverage of the event so team sponsors will benefit hugely through branding on race gear and the choice of team names – even more so if their racers get a good place on the leaderboard!”
