Definitive Text On Marlborough Groundwater
Council water scientist Peter Davidson has published a book which draws together all the available expert knowledge of Marlborough’s underground water resources.
“Groundwaters of Marlborough” outlines current understanding of this region’s groundwater resources, focussing on aquifer science and hydrology, supported by local history and some important environmental messages. It’s a snapshot of what’s known about Marlborough’s water networks today and is expected to be a vital source of information for consultants and for the public, for education and research purposes and as a source of expert knowledge for hearings panels and policy development.
The front cover of the book is a photograph looking into the depths of one of the few 19th century stone-lined wells that remain in the district, at Southwold in the Wairau Valley.
Environment Committee chairman Peter Jerram says the work done for this book, alongside all the other water research done by the Council’s professional staff, is what has given Marlborough the jump on other regions in terms of understanding and managing water allocation.
