Boost for Happy Valley Trout Pond

One thousand two year-old rainbow trout are being released into the pond on Friday (19/8/2011).

Wellington Fly Fishing Club is behind the re-stocking with Fish & Game providing the fish.

The young trout reared at Fish & Game’s hatchery at Ngongotaha near Rotorua, are being transported on Friday aboard the special ‘trout transporter’ truck – due to arrive at Happy Valley around 2.30 pm.

This is an excellent film and photo opportunity – the fish are delivered into the lake/pond through a pipe from the tanker.

The trout centre is used for up to six children’s fishing open days held every year.

The centre was a real community initiative with funding from Fish & Game, Wellington City Council, local businesses and organisations.
