Tupperware gives $87,000 to Christchurch children in need

Tupperware has donated $87,000 to Variety – The Children’s Charity to help children affected by the earthquake in Christchurch.

Immediately following the earthquake, Tupperware Asia Pacific made a corporate donation of $34,000. The company then ran a number of promotions in New Zealand and Australia, which raised a further $53,000.

The ‘March with our Mates’ promotion saw $2 from every Tupperware party held in March donated to the earthquake appeal. Exclusive Tupperware products and mystery packs were also sold with 100% of money raised going to Christchurch families through Variety.

As well as the cash donation to Variety – The Children’s Charity, Tupperware also distributed Tupperware products to families, schools and businesses in need following the earthquakes.

Thank you to Tupperware Asia Pacific for its corporate donation, to all the Tupperware Demonstrators in New Zealand and Australia for their hard work and to everyone who hosted or attended a party, and bought the earthquake appeal products. Together you have raised a phenomenal amount for the children of Christchurch and 100% of this will go to where it’s most needed.”

Since the earthquake, Variety has already given more than $91,000 to children and families that have been affected by the earthquake in Christchurch and the charity continues to receive applications for financial assistance.

“Every day we hear about the hardship that many families in Christchurch are facing,” says Lorraine. “We recently provided a grant of $3,396 to one such family. Following the February earthquake Hannah and her four children moved from Christchurch to Waimate to try and rebuild their lives. They lost most of their belongings in the earthquake including furniture, clothing, toys and a treasured birthday gift – a BMX bike which was stolen from their property. Without insurance, the family is struggling to replace lost items as well as meeting the cost of the basic necessities of life – heating their rental home, paying the electricity bill and restocking the kitchen.

“The Variety grant will buy a new bed for Jordan, new netball shoes for Georgia and a replacement bike, warm clothing for all the children, firewood, sleeping bags for inside the children’s beds and essential food to restock the cupboards. This is just one family and there are many, many more that need our help this winter.”
