One October saw the introduction by Franklin District Council of speed limit changes within the District. The widest reaching of these changes was the introduction of a 50 kph speed limit on all Franklin District beaches (excluding the existing 20 kph limit in the1 km zone at Karioitahi Beach).

“This speed limit change sends a strong message to the community and those who visit beaches within the District. The beach is a place where rules apply. Excessive speed is not welcome on the beach,” says Franklin District Council’s Land Transport Manager, Dawn Inglis.

Franklin District Council also introduced speed limit changes in the following areas:

Pokeno Road, Pokeno: 70 kph zone extends for an extra 220m west of Helenslee Rd.

Saddleton Road, Waiau Pa: 80kph zone for the full length of the road

F Lowry Road and Rua One Place, Whakatiwai: 50kph zone for the full length of the roads.

“Whether you are driving through the affected areas or not these changes signal a timely reminder to check your speed,” says Dawn.
